My neighbor whose health is failing asked me if I could help him sell a couple of rifles. Both are Jap, a 6.5 and a 7.7. The 6.5 is missing the guts out of the bolt.
The 7.7 looks complete but though the bolt moves I can not get it to rotate for opening. Tried to move the safety thinking it may be on but though it moves when pushed it does not turn. I know nothing about these rifles but would like to help him out if I can.

If anyone can advise on what the problems could be on the 7.7 bolt and what could be done with the 6.5 (fix or sell for parts?) and what kind of value they might have it would be appreciated. Thanks, retread

Looks to me like the safety parts are missing from the 7.7. Also looks like it may be a late war/last ditch model. Not sure how much help I can be, but these things in altered but shootable condition don't seem to go for much $$. If you factor in shipping and transfer fees they have even less value..........

Any chance the safety from one was mistakenly put on the other? I'm not too familiar with those rifle or if that is even possible.

I believe the bolt parts are obtainable from Numrich:

Is it possible that at some time they have been deliberately rendered unusable as wall hangers? If you remove the magazine parts and floorplate from the 7.7mm you might find something like a screw preventing rotation of the bolt.

Left gun seems to be a modified Type 38 Meiji carbine, dust cover missing.

The 7,7 uses a different kind of safety/ cocking piece. The 38 is also missing the ejector / bolt stop.

If you're looking to sell only real value there is the parts, Someone buying for the parts would likely pay about 40 apiece. The complete bolt depending on condition is about 60-80 part the stripped bolt is about 20. The other useable parts sling bands and bottom metal have some value but not much.

Semi "sporterized" and gun butchered, with the Mum ground off the receivers, I agree that these are mostly parts guns. It would cost more than they're worth to put them back in usable condition, at this point.
