Hi all, I have two 1860 snubbies repros that I have fitted with Howell conversion cylinders. Full length .45 lc seem a bit long for the cylinders so I have trimmed my cases to 45 Schofield length (much better imo), I'm loading a 200 gr. cast boolit, 23 grains of fffg, a wax paper disc and a grease wad. The load seems to work well, don't have a chrono, my concern is with safey, reliability, and longevity of the guns. Any thoughts?

That sounds like a safe load. The original Schofield service load was 28 grains of black powder with a 230-grain bullet.

Just to keep everything on the Up and Up....I believe the first Schofield was patented in 1871?

We need PICS please! :bigsmyl2:

OP didn't say he had 1860 Schofield revolvers, he says he has 1860 revolvers with .45 Schofield conversion cylinders!

No worries..your shooting black. I have a Kirst cyl. for my circa 1980 Colt 1860 army .44 & I find the Schofield brass to be a little more accurate than the reg. long colt..But i'm using light charges of Bullseye, TightGroup, & TrailBoss.
