What are these bringing now?

Ran across one locally that isn't pristine; ground mum and no dust cover or sling, but otherwise complete and stock with what looks to be a pretty good bore. Has the airplane sight which I always thought was neat.

Asking price was $249.95. Was thinking of offering $200 cash out the door. Haven't shot my milsurps much lately, this one looks fun.

200 seems a bit steep to me, you can buy one with the dustcover and mum for about 300$

They are climbing some in price so I would offer the $200 and see what happens. Around here one with a mum all intact goes for around $400. I have one complete intact and 2 chopped that I paid around $100 for.

200 would be my offer but I'd still pay 250

I've not seen them that inexpensive for a couple of years now.
I've got a Type 99 (7.7x58) with matching numbers and intact mum and anti-aircraft sights. The bore is shiny new looking. Bluing is probably 75-80%, but the poor stock looks like it's been through 3 World-Wars.
No mono-pod, dust cover, or sling.
I got mine in trade for services rendered almost 4 years ago now.
My services were less than $100

I've been watching them since I ran across mine and prices are going up every day.
If the bore is good, and you could get it for anything under $250, I'd say jump on it.
They are fun to shoot.

Prices only go up on milsurp. Ammo is kinda hard to come by but brass can still be found for us reloaders. Slug the bore and get your self a mold

$250 is about right for matching numbers and a ground mum, a lot have had the bolt swapped which hurts thier value. 7.7x58 brass really isn't that big a deal, resizing and trimming 30-06 or 8x57 Mauser is easy enough to do and RCBS still makes die sets for them. Offer what you think it is worth to you. They are a lot of fun to shoot and make a good brush gun because of thier short length.

I have several molds that would work. I have a set of dies coming because I found them cheap. I think PPU makes brass, but I have spare '06 brass I could form. May have to go back and make an offer this weekend, always kinda wanted to add one to the collection.

Obviously this is a Type 99 7.7mm and not a Type 38 6.5mm.

Yes, 7.7. I do cast for 6.5s as well, but haven't much and only have one mold.

If the barrel is chromed, and therefore pristine, $250 doesn't sound out of line.
Mine is pretty pristine, complete with all parts, no grind on mum. It is a good
shooter, with strange but effective sights.

..in general, Arisakas have been lower on the food chain, and dollar value versus most other military guns out there. But they are fun as heck to collect, as there are many makers, and phases of production to look at and find.

The bayonets for all there rifles are just as fun to collect.

I paid $100 + tax for a type 99 in 6.5x50 1999 at a pawn shop.
I paid $45 + tax for a professionally sporterized type 38 in 300 Sav in 2000 at a pawn shop.
I paid $60 + tax for a professionally sporterized type 38 in 300 Sav in 2002 at a pawn shop.
I paid $100 for a type 38 in 6.5x50 in 2011 in a private sale.

IMO, move the decimal point one place to the left in that price. Just my opinion on Arisakas though, don't mind me!

Don't know if I would go quite that far, but I wouldn't pay $200 for one either. Of course I don't really care for these things in battle dress....paid $80 for my sporter with a Redfield sight and replacement sporter stock. Needed a bit of cosmetic work as the conversion was apparently done LONG ago.....but for eighty bucks it was an easy projects that shoots pretty well also.

This is the only Arisaka I have actually spent any time with. It is a late war production but not a last ditch. Must say, this thing is built like a tank.....

I have 3 of the type99 and one type 38. Ammo is easy to load. Just use 8X57 Mauser brass. Works as well as the factory brass for these rifles. 7X57 will work but the neck is longer so the shoulder is farther down the case and takes more work to load it. The 30-06 based brass works just involves some trimming.
Lee does make dies for the 7.7X58.
