I seen one of these the other day and it got me thinking...I need one of these set ups!

Does anyone know if there's a website dedicated to them? What calibers were they available for?
I'd almost buy a gun FOR the tool to have the whole shebang.

I think the Los Angeles Gun Club has a good write up on these, I cant remember the link, may not have name correct. The earlier models were mostly pistol size.

Not really... there were a pretty fair number of rifle caliber tools made too, and probably in more different calibers. I never "warmed up" to the idea of casting bullets with an iron-handled tool though!

I have a nickled Ideal No.4 tong tool with attatched mould. This one is kind of rare..it's marked .22-20 H When I first got it everyone said it was for the .22 Hornet..not so the parent of the Hornet was the .22 WCF, the so called .22-13-45. This one is for the Harwood Hornet..a blackpowder number from around the late 1890's. But the mould casts a bullet looking the same as for the .22 Winchester center fire. Several years back, I used this old tool for casting..those guys back then must have been tough! The whole tool gets HOT! All that iron acts as a heat sink..so it must be kept hot..even with heavy insulated welders gloves it was uncomfortable.

The Harwood Hornet intrigues me a bit. From what I can remember it was one of the first cartridges that was "improved" by fireforming, but it didn't get a lot of press; that seems to have waited roughly 40 years for Mr Kilbourn to come up with the .22 K-Hornet.

I am curious as to what cartridge Harwood based his on?

Reuben Harwood necked down the .25-20 Single-Shot case (not .25WCF.) to .22. This was an attempt for flatter trajectories and more velocity for eastern woodchuck hunting. It's interesting that in this country..most of the high velocity small bore rifle/cartridge development owes it all to Marmota Monax!

Just remembered...That same .25-20 Single Shot case later was used by Lovell to create the .22-3000 and later a slightly sharper shouldered version known as the R2 Lovell.

The combo tools look a whole lot neater than they actually work. I got one thinking how neat it would be to have mould and reloading tool all in one. A seprate mould and a seprate loading tool actually work a lot better. That being said , I did cast some boolits and load some rounds for an old top break 38 S&W I own , and they did shoot. But it was a PITA to load up 50 rounds . It's sorta like owning a Model T Ford, fun to putt around town in but you not going to sell your new modern car and take it on a long cross country trip in it .

Fun to fool around with, but I'm not going to buy anymore.

Thanks for answering my question; I don't anticipate building one, but you never know what might come home in a trade situation.

Just how much does that thing weigh? Wow!

Does anyone know why there is nothing in the "Forum" section of the ARTCA site?

No bids now but watch them jump at closing. I do the same and watch these. I have ones in 32 long colt, 32 Ideal, and I think two others off the top of my head.
