I have a mint early Interarms Rossi 92 in 357. I just cast up a bunch of 200 gr swc 38 (H&G #319) cal bullets and will work up a 357 load for this rifle. I think it will be a great shooter. The 357 in a rifle is a very different animal.
Anyone have any experience with the 200gr swc bullet in 357?
Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks.

I bought this gun probably 8 years ago and paid loooooooooong dollars for it at the time.....$400. It was mint unfired and it is an early Interarms gun. Near as I can tell it is an early 80's gun. The workmanship and quality is outstanding. I have been shooting 38's out of it along with some 357's on occasion. Very pleasant gun to shoot.
The 38's you can shoot all day long and shooting cast (158 gr swc over 4.0 gr 231) it is just a treat. I also bought a 4 cavity H&G 39 (158gr round nose 38) to see how they feed in the rifle. I would suspect they will feed a lot better than a swc bullet.
I am ready to step it up. i bought this H&G 319 4 cavity because it was cheap and what the heck.....200 grains? Why not? I have found some loading data for 296 powder which I already have a bunch of. I'm ready to step it up.
Thanks for your kind offer to take the Rossi off my hands.....I think I'll pass....:bigsmyl2:

Might check the twist rate. The newer ones have a very slow twist and won't shoot 200gr. bullets. Not sure about the old ones.

I have a '92 of the same vintage as yours. Got it from an estate sale. Someone had removed the rear sight and replaced it with a slot blank, then installed a receiver sight. This longer sight radius helped with boolit placement on the targets. My early tests with 357 brass showed this rifle favors shorter COL loads over longer. As for group size, best production was with the Lyman 358156 or similar (150-160) weight range. Tried both lighter and heavier designs, they were always more open on groups.

Several Lever Action Silhouette shooters use 190/200gr boolts for 200 yard targets. Try asking for their load data at the SteelChickens web site. Shoots like the .357 rifle because it works well in Pistol Cartridge (out to 100 yards) and CLA (out to 200 yards) matches...one gun for two matches.

How do you check the twist rate? Kind of hard to measure and count one revolution of the rifling.

How do you check the twist rate? Kind of hard to measure and count one revolution of the rifling.

Put a cleaning rod in from the muzzle. Screw on a tight fitting bronze pistol length brush in the open action. Pull rod back to engage brush into the rifling. Clip a clothespin on the rod, pointing up, and touching the muzzle. Pull the rod toward you until the pin makes one complete revolution. Measure the distance between the pin and the muzzle. If the brush falls out the end before making a complete turn, let it do a half turn and double your number. Easy!

FWIW, Every .357 Model 92 Rossi ever made has been issued with only a 1:30" twist.
