I just picked up a like new 1863 Sharps Rifle, carbine version. It is one of the conversions from percussion to 50/70 and here is the incredible part it was $400.00. I feel like I won the lottery. I will post pics tonight. I pulled it apart and after cleaning off tons of dust it does not look shot since the conversion. the breech block still has full case colors.

I did not check if it was a three groove. I was so excited about the bore being like new that I did not even think to check I will have to check tonight.

It would be a crying shame to foul the bore now, after 150 years of dust collecting. I think in the interest of safety, you should remove the extractor and ship it to me for safe keeping.

nice snag!

Congrats on a real find and a better deal! If it is a lined 3-groove you will need boolits of about .515-.518 diameter. If original 5-groove barrel you will need larger--possibly as large as .530+ to get reasonable accuracy. These are wonderful rifles. Enjoy!

I'd have had a hard time passing it up. I'm guessing you weren't at a gun show when you found it.
