Will someone offer a brief definition of a bore-rider boolit design?
I see them mentioned frequently and never have a good picture of it in my mind.

A bore rider just means the nose of the bullet is bore sized. Lets say it is a .30 caliber barrel with a bore of .300" and groove of .308". The bore rider design bullet would have a body of maybe .310" and the nose would be .300" and ride the bore. A pic of a good example of a bore rider design, drive bands are .309 and nose is .300 from bands up to the truncated cone tip.

What's the advantage of such a boolit over a more traditional design with the bearing surface extending up to the cone or ogive?

It provides more positive alignment of the bullet with the centerline of the bore. The straighter you can start the bullet down the bore, the better the accuracy will be......at least that has been the case with my experience.

And in a single shot rifle you can load the bullet much farther out , leaving more room for powder....Usually Black Powder like God intended![smilie=s:
