I actually let out a Whoop! when I fired the 3rd shot.

Today my goal was to see what the best group I could come up with at 100 yards. I was shooting my Rem 700 in 30.06. I loaded up with a NOE 311299 and 16.5gr of 2400. I shot 7 3 round groups and this was the last one for the day. The other 6 groups seemed to average about 1.5 moa - 2 moa due to 1 shot being off every time. Don't know if it was because of me or not but I sure was glad when it finally came together.

Keep after it Pac, small groups are always a WHOOP, just remember as my friend Ken C. says "Sometimes flyers fly in" That statement keeps me humble. GP

That looks very good. I always had my best luck around 1700 fps give or take.

Good shooting but a word of warning; three shot groups lie! I've learned that the hard way more than once. Most mediocre loads can put three boolits in relative or even extreme proximity. I won't fire less than five rounds of a test load and if I like it I'll fire two more five shot groups and overlay them before I get very excited about it.

this is how i handle it.

3 shots(deer, bear, etc.)
5 shots(varmints, foxes, cotoyes, etc.)
10 shots(paper targets, etc..)

its a whoop for me!!!!

I am a member on another site and we are doing a 3 shot group competition for bragging rights. Thus a 3 shot group. Since I am the only one submitting a 3 shot group with bullets that I cast and everyone else is shooting store bought jacketed bullets I thought I was doing pretty good. Just wanted to share with the folks that helped me get started in casting.

You are doing good, a 2400 load like that is usually an excellent load but a few more shots will tell you much more than three shots. It's all about uniformity from this point on and you're headed in the right direction. I've had loads that looked really good up until 4th or 5th shot, those are the groups you learn from. My exceptions to the 5-shot rule are a T/C Contender in 35 Rem and verifying scope settings with a known good load/rifle/scope combo.
Last thing I wanted to do was discourage you but on your next range trip your group size could double or triple and you'll be trying to figure out what changed when in fact nothing has changed. That's not likely to happen with this load but it very well could.

all of my groups are 3 shots, this includes a ruger #1 in 270 all of my tc encores(20 vartarg, 22-250ai, 6.5 creedmoor, and 444 marlin) each of them is an MGM Barrel. right now, i have a 30-40 krag in 1898 spr. armory that shoot cast boolits at 100 yards for 5 shots. i am still trying to get her to shoot a 3" group, its me and not the gun:shock:. i'm still learning how to shoot open sights like i used to. dang scopes:holysheep. hey its been 20+ years since i've had an open sighted 30-30[smilie=l:!!!

you sir, have a heck of a group!!! esp. with boolits you casted yourself!!!
