Why 4100? Is there a special application for it that you're interested in? Why not Enforcer, AA9, H110/W296, etc? I've seen very little data for 4100. Lyman has some for 480 Ruger, but other than that...

AA 4100 is Ramshot Enforcer which are both made in the same plant. There is a lot of data for this powder in the magnum handgun world. It is one of my favorite powders for top end loads in Ruger Only 45 Colt and 454 Casull loads. The nice thing about it is it ignites easier than AA#9 and I have about 10 lbs of it sitting in my reloading room.

This powder would be perfect for 44 Mag, probably why you are wanting it..........never owned a 44 but for what I'm doing things are close enough.

Also Alliant is vapor.

My LGS has 2 8 pound jugs of reddot and says, nobody will buy them. I have a 8 pounder already and that's enough to last me awhile.

as my testing goes 4100, enforcer, aa9 and wc820 and h108 are all the same powder. burning speed might vary between each but no more then burning speed lot to lot between jugs of the same powder do. Ive loaded with all 4 and velocitys rarely vary more the 50fps between any of them using the same load.

Theirs not much powder around now. I scored some AR comp a while back from Powder Valley, to feed the AR this year. I haven't seen pistol powders period for a while.

I haven't used WC820 nor H108 but I have used AA#9 and 4100/Enforcer and can say my testing showed a difference between those two and more than just lot to lot variance. I'm loading primarily Ruger Only 45 Colt and 454 Casull rounds so maybe there is something with the larger caliber.

I thought #9 had more flash to it vs 4100/enforcer. More importantly I noted that Enforcer is slower by quite a bit. Load data on the Accurate site will show the difference I'm experiencing. Noting max loads with magnum revolver loads one can see with the exact bullet, same COAL and nearly identical pressures, Enforcer/4100 uses 1-3 grains more powder and a boost in velocity is the end result.

The load data pretty much has been a mirror to my results except I'm using different boolits of course so have different loads I'm putting together.

For anyone who wants to look at load data here is the link to the current online PDF Accurate powder data:

A few years ago, about the same time I got a X-frame in S&W 500Mag, I seen a dusty 1lb bottle of AA 4100 on the shelf. I can't recall where I got the data for it in the 500, but I really liked it with heavy boolits in the 500. I burnt up the 1lb long ago, and have been looking for it ever since and not finding it. I asked my LGS, he said he'd check on it. He claimed his distributor can't get it...this was before the sandyhook/obama "run" on the market. So I settled on W296/H110.

John,
What is the price the LGS is asking for the RD?
My club has been getting more powder with every order and not paying more than $125 for 8# So maybe reality is coming back and things will come back to normalcy?
