I am new to B.P.C.R. shooting and have worked up a good load for my .45/70 using 405 gr. cast bullets. The bullets that I am using have no imperfections on the bearing surfaces, but have creases on the nose portion. When I weighed 200 of these prelubed bullets the weight varied 4.5 gr. from lightest to heaviest. I have been told that the minor creases on the bullet ogive will not affect accuracy at 200 yds. and that the weight difference is not critical. Before I go further, I would like some other input.

At 200 yds you are unlikely to see a difference. If you are truly into BCPR you will load a group of the creased ones and the uncreased ones and see if there is a difference with your rifle and your load. Ditto with the weight variation, load some light ones and some of the heavies and see if you have one group on the target or two. The more you shoot your rifle the more you know it and how it handles.
