Anyone loading buckshot using a gas seal and cork filler/cushion? I want to try it but I have no load data in my manuals. Tried cutting the petals off regular wads with poor pattern results. I want to use cast 00 buck 3 stacks of 3.

If my memory serves right Lyman's Shotshell Reloading Manual 5th edition has several buckshot loads. Not sure if they how many cork wads or plastic. But I do think they have some 00 nine pellet loads at least using plastic.

I just got home and pulled mine out. There are 10 pages on buckshot loads in there all on 12 ga with plastic wads.

Ballistic Products has a Buckshot Manual which lists many examples of this kind of load. The loads use the gas seals and brush wads they sell, most of which are made by Gualandi in Italy. If you see a Rio or Nobel Sport or other imported buckshot round with some kind of weird plastic wad which doesn't look like your typical target wad, it's probably one of these Gualandi specialty wads. They are actually great, and worth keeping in stock if you load much buckshot.

Cheapskates like me can also find lots of free load data in BPI's "Load of the Week" archive; for example: http://www.ballisticproducts.com/load13_03_25.htm

Browse around in there and you'll probably find what you need.

I've recently gotten this manual and I'm working on a 3x5 00 buckshot load in 2 3/4" shells. To improve paterning use teflon wraps.

If better patterns are your goal, you may want to try stacking buffered 00B in 2 pellet layers inside the shotcup of a one piece wad. Due to reduced radial compression, this will allow tighter chokes to work.

Here is some pressure tested data to start - see page 35:

With card and fiber it is pretty easy. Simply take the plastic one piece wad data you want to use and increase the powder charge by 10-20%. I would start at and use 10% to be conservative.

Weight is the true answer IMHO wads or whatever weight them and look at loads by weight. Use the wad weight and the weight of the actual projectile. When all the same there you go.

This is in front of what manuals say but for what it works is no difference . Manuals are not chiseled in stone but are chiseled in Lawyer speak .

Perhaps plain card and fiber wads appeal:
