I have an old Argentine 1911, 1956 by serial number. I am thinking about selling it since I do not want to modify it and do not really shoot her as is. It is numbers matching with out magazine. There are no import marks and it is fairly clean. I have replaced 2 of the grip nuts, someone over tightened the originals and I did not want to locktite them back in. I do have the originals and the original grip screws, but not the original grips. The finish is original, has not been through the import process where they were parkerized. The barrel also has a blued chamber as many did.

I would love to know where to start with an asking price.

Will it bring as much as the pre-WWII Commercial Colt it's patterned after? No.

But you've got the same intricately checkered small parts, beavertail hammer, probably even a milled (not stamped and staked) trigger, and that rarest of things these days - BLUEING! It's a sexy .45, any way you slice it. For less than a grand, I'd keep it.

The current grips should migrate to something else. Originals should be black hard rubber of 1911-A1 styling (no double diamonds). Uncle Mike made something close once upon a time, but it shouldn't be hard to find something that sorta looks right.

Your serial number range puts it into where it was most likely manufactured in the Hartford plant, before the equipment was shipped south.

waksupi, can you please explain that? My understanding was that it was produced in Argentina since the manufacturing process went south very early on in it's history...

Was it with the CNC equipment now currently in use by RIA? Sorry for the drift, but I had to make a funny.

Good condition Sistema's are selling in the $450-$750 range. The $750 range ones are in better condition than yours with the correct and original stocks.

I could be wrong, but I think the serial numbers got into the 9000 range before the equipment got moved. Looking at the second link, it appears there was 10,000 in the US run.

When you decide to sell, please drop me a PM as I would be interested and if we don't make a deal then I can point you in different directions to better figure value and hopefully put good cheddar in your pocket.

I took it the Serial # was 1956 from your original post.

My Argentine Colt has a higher nr. than that and was made by Colt and has the pony.

Year of mfg 1956 is correct for those Sistema Modelo 1927 made by D.G.F.M - (F.M.A.P.) for the army (Ejercito Argentino)

Direccion General de Fabricaciones Militares Fabrica Militar de Armas Portatiles.

Nice looking pistol. Appears to have original finish which is rare in my experience. Most are refinished. Since this pistol's value is as a collectible it looses value with those grip panels. Even reproductions of the originals would be more appealing than those, IMO.

These Sistema M1927 are excellent clones of the 1911A1. Parts are interchangeable. I owned a navy model: Marina de Guerra that was made in 1957.

I'm not up on what money these will bring but I'd guess $350-500+.

Believe me the grips were not my choice! They are ugly and way to fat! I think I will take her to the next Indy 1500 and see what kind of interest there is, may come back with it and may not. It is a couple of months away, really wanted to move it before summer hits.

Thanks for the input guys.
