I updated my list & thought I'd post it here. I verified the companies with websites still offer BP. Some of the others may no longer be in business or dropped their BP line.

Bass Pro has it not far from me here in Tn, I started to post a complaint about them however and had said I would probably load dirt before paying the $34.99 they asked for it when I was in there last time but before I did I checked with their site to see that it is now only $26 so I suppose that's not so bad.

If you can not find it on bass pro ask because ours here in fort Myers keep it in a safe in the back. When I ask sales person they say check the shelves I tell them it is in the back in the safe. They ask the manager and he says he's right. Their slow but some day they will all know where it is.

Yep I ran into that myself the first time I asked for it, the guy working the gun sales didn't know squat and told me that what they have is on the shelf. I told him that a friend of mine had bought some there recently and that BP would not be sitting on the shelf with other powders because it would be illegal, someone else there heard us talking and told him it would be in the back but (he mentioned someone else by name) would have to get it out of the locker. After all that when they told me it was $34.99 a lb I said I didn't want it after all at that price, the fella who told me they had it had not mentioned how much it cost and I had failed to ask. If I had of only needed a pound like some folks have mentioned I might still have bought it, even at twice the price it would be way better than the phony stuff, but I wanted five pounds so I just decided to wait on it to be delivered. At the $26 per pound they are asking now it's not bad for just a pound or so since that's only about $6 to $8 or so more than a sub and well worth the difference if a person only needs a pound but for 5 or more pounds it's cheaper to order it.

You can lead a horse to water but you can not make them drink - as the saying goes.

Someone that is set in their opinion can find every reason to not do something - I know - I can be that way and my kids show me every variation of this.[smilie=l:

Last month I came home with a full case of FFg GOEX - the new Old Eynsford powder.
I received a few lbs last year as samples to try and it shows some good accuracy after some messing around with loading.

$380 into my hands. 25 lbs That is retail!
I shoot a lot. I can not imagine paying $35 a pound. Charging that much is just plane disrespectful to their customers and sure fire does not promote shooting. Especially when you know its true retail. But, it is capitalism - and I support that, in all its forms. Bass Pro makes their choices and I make mine.

Michael up here here in Canada anything other than plain Goex costs an arm and a leg.

I just paid $30/lb for a case of OE 1.5. That's Canadian dollars, so maybe $24 US these days. I hope that stuff works. I have some rounds loaded for the .45-90 and will test them soon.I was able to scrounge up a little bit of Swiss 1.5 not too long ago for a little less than what I paid for the OE. To me the main cost has been the constant switching of powder formulations by Goex. If Swiss was regularly available here and at a half decent price I'd have stopped buying anything Goex long ago. ( I can get order it in, but my supplier wants $40 $Cdn a pound ! )

Several years ago I was wondering about the wisdom of getting rid of my smokeless rifles and switching to black powder almost 100%. If you have the will you'll find a way. I have had it easier than a lot of the guys shooting FT/R who had so much trouble finding Varget and Reloder 15 for several years :-)

Chris, I am sorry that is the case in Canada. I suppose that picking up a case from Dave Gullo as you pass through his state and returning home with it will get you in trouble too.

You need to just have a lot of big gun shells that you load while you are here and return home with as loaded ammo .

From what I understand I can't leave with any more than I bought in :-).

I'd like it if the prices were lower, but hey, it's still cheaper here than in the UK or in Australia. I think the main problem is lack of competition ( in sales, not shooting ). If I had a licensed powder magazine I'm sure I could import it for less, but it would only make sense in large quantities.

The cost of premium powder is one of the reasons I got the .45-90 PP rifle built. The goal was to do with Goex Fg what my .45-70 PP rifle does with premium FFg or 1.5Fg powder. But then I bought the OE anyway :-)

Just call Jon before you go to get powder from him so he can get it ready for you. You will have to fill out the yellow sheets, so it's good to call before you go so he can get the paper work started.
Here in Illinois you can only buy 5# a day over the counter.
Good people to do business with.

I found Alliant black powder substitute for $10/lb locally. I've never seen it before, but $10/lb is way cheaper than pyrodex. Anyone have input on the Alliant sub?

Im getting ready to order powder tuesday. A 25 lb mixed case of old ensford 1.5F and 2F probably 15 lbs 1.5 and 10 of 2F ( Im out of 1.5F but still have 5 or so of 2F ). Right now Buffalo arms is stating 15.20 a pound with the price break not including haz mat. Standard goex is 14.?? and Swiss is 25.?? I cant believe how fast the 90 eats the 1.5F. LOL

A month back I saw on an on line auction what 2 lbs. of black powder in the old metal red & white cans went for. The cans were unopened so they were a full 1 lb. each. They were 3F and a can of 4F. The auction ended with a final bid of $62 + 3% auction premium fee. William`s Gunsight store in Davision used to carry black, not any more for all the regulations and employee training that has to be done.Robert
