My Marlin 336XLR got company today, an 1895XLR. :-D

I won a texas hold em tournament fundraiser for a local charity on Sunday and have $1,000 extra spending cash that the Mrs. gave me permission to spend on my "toys". Ironically I picked up the 336 at a charitable auction last fall so doing good deeds pays off.

Very nice :drinks:

What is your 336XLR ? 30-30 or 35 REM ?

I kinda got a taste for the XLR's myself [smilie=1:

It's a 30-30.

The XLR/Levergun thing is kind of addicting. I've had a Marlin 1894 in .38 spec for cowboy action shooting and have always liked it but never got the urge to get a levergun for hunting. Like I said in the previous post I attended a fundraiser that was actioning off the 336 with a Ruger Blackhawk in .357 as a pair, this one to be exact

., and well I can't pass up an opportunity to buy firearms and support a good cause at the same time so I bought them. The 336 swung to the sholder and fit me so nicely it got me to thinking, dangerous I know, and I've wanted a 45/70 for quite a while and well here I am.

I know exactly what you mean [smilie=1:

I have an example of each of the XLR's to date , and have killed deer with them all :drinks:

I was in hopes of seeing one this year in 32 Special , but Marlin let me down

In 2006 I used the 30-30 , 444 and 45-70 XLR's to take deer here in Virginia . And in 2007 I used the 450 , 35 REM and 308 Express .

In the 30-30 , 450 , 35 and 308 I used the Leverevolution stuff . In the 444 and 45-70 I used handloads , but have since sighted them in with the Hornady rubber tipped stuff .

Can't say the rubber tipped stuff is my all time favourite but what the heck I thought I would give it a try :drinks:

I have since picked up some of the rubber tipped stuff for the 44 MAG and have more on order for the 357 MAG an 32 Special . Although the 32 Special stuff might stay on my shelf until they come out with a 32 XLR [smilie=1:
Incidently I purchased the 35 REM rubber tip ammo when it first hit the market and never fired the first round until I purchased the 35XLR even though I already owned a pair of other 35 REM's !

Here's an 8 pointer I killed in 2006 with the 444XLR and a handloaded Hornady 265 grain bullet .

A four pointer I killed in 2006 with the 45-70 XLR and a handloaded Barnes 300 grain bullet .

Two slicks I got in 2007 with the 450 XLR and the Hornady rubber tipped stuff .

Another doe with the 35 XLR and the Hornady rubber tipped stuff .

And the 308MXLR with a new worlds record smallest spike . Killed this one also with the Hornady rubber tipped stuff [smilie=1:

This little Ruger revolver feels like a feather compared to my S&W 4" 629 . :drinks:

Nice.

I've been hunting with the same rifle since 1981, but I'm looking forward to taking out the Leverguns next year. I'm finally eligible to apply for a Moose permit again as they make you wait 7 years after you've drawn one, I think the 45/70 will be just the ticket.

Quite alright on the thread drift. I picked up a SP101 in .357 a little while ago (before I knew about the .327), not that I would of necessarily changed my mind at the time, but they are a great little gun.

How do yo like the .327, I've been curious about them?

I usually pack my Ruger Super Blackhawk in .44 while deer hunting, if they are close enough for me I like to use it instead of the rifle.

To be honest I have not fired the 327 yet . The case that I photgraphed is the one that came with the gun.

I already have two other revolvers and a Marlin 1894 in 32 H&R MAG . So I decided to wait to shoot the 327 Federal until I had actual 327 Federal ammo .
