I loaded 32 rounds of .303 British with a 210 grain, aluminum gas checked bullet. After I finished, I suddenly realized that I had used the wrong powder! Although I could have simply shot them, I decided to pull the bullets, dump the powder and start over. Of course, the obvious happened....all but four came out leaving the aluminum check stuck in the case neck.[smilie=b:

I can't be the first one this has happened to. Is there any way, other than shooting them like blanks, to remove the checks so I can recover my powder?

Happens more often than not to me. I just hold them neck down and ferret around with a pair of tweezers and pull them out. If they are jammed face on in the neck they will need pushing into the body of the case so you can get a good grip. Works every time for me.

Thanks guys......I have a dental pick and forceps.............and I'm not afraid to use 'em! :)

Update: Well, that was easy! With the case sitting on my bench I simply used a small screwdriver, placed at the inside edge of the check, and gave it a gentle "bop" with the palm of my hand. This pushed the check down in to the case where it turned sideways and was easy to extract with a small pair of forceps (tweezers probably would have worked too). Since they were facing sideways it took almost no effort at all to grab them and pull them out.

I retrieved all my powder and surprisingly the checks appear undamaged and reusable. It's a good day!

Yep, this is one of those things that looks worse than it actually is. Glad it worked out for you.

I have found the easiest way to get them out, is to slightly nip the necks into an oval shape with pliers and the checks just fall out.

Then re-size the necks and you are good to go.
