I would like to know what scope base is out there that has a FLAT bottom for mounting on the action.

My rifle action is a Safari M98-global trading italia.

but no it's not a 'normal' mauser action.

it has a flat top with screw holes for mounting bases on it.

forward screw holes are .88 apart, the rear are .5 apart.

It also has, don't know how to describe it, a 22lr style 'rail' on it. The top, (widest part) of the rail is .58, and it groves down to .475 approx .3 deep
Here is a picture.

What scope bases will work?

There may be rings available that mate to that dove tail available from manufacturer or somewhere. Otherwise bronells sell weaver blank rails flat bottomed and radioused in 12" lengths/ Black anodized aluminum

Seems to me SAKO made an action with a front ring like that. Maybe old SAKO rings will work..?

The Model 336 Marlin takes a flat base. I am not sure a one piece will be long enough for a bridge mount; but there are also a bunch of two piece bases out there for them.

Other than that, find some for an octagon barreled muzzle loader.

IIRC, the Weaver #61 base is flat - it was originally intended for the Shilen DGA action.

Both CZ and Sako used system like that

Yep, no separate bases required - just accurately measure (in both inches & millimeters) the width of the dovetail, then surf the Burris website for the proper size rings (tagged as fitting whichever rifle).

Although there are other clamp-on scope ring makers, IMO Burris ring's polish/blue will closely match the bolt release finish - your receiver's finish appears to have turned from bluing to plum-coloring (me likey).

The flare at the forward end of the receiver ring's grooving is where the front ring should abut, as a recoil stop to prevent scope movement forward.

Looks like a FN M98 commercial (modern) set up for Sako rings...the tapped holes are an after thought...use Sako rings or srew down any flat bottom base ( Weaver)

pietro, I went to Burris's site and could find no information on what dovetail their rings fit. Got a link to where they show the dimensions?

anyone with a CZ 550 long action, can they tell me what the dovetail size is on their rifle? I want to know what will match up with my dovetail on my rifle.

well I feel really really stupid now. right in the description at Midway it has the MM of the dovetail for them.

doh! so .58 of an inch translates to 14.7 MM so 16mm looks to be the closest, what say you?

You can always use the gunsmith bases Redfield sells that you drill your self .

sweet! After measuring mine it is 16mm dovetail that I need, so the CZ 527's will be the ticket.

I'll see about getting some ordered!

The blueing is not fading. I can not remember what type of metal is used, but this happens to the blueing when it is used. If you look at some of the Finnish rifles it happens all the time to them. It may be a higher % of chromium added to the alloy.

If you are getting bases that are not for this action, make sure that the font and rear are the right heights as to each other. Lay a straight edge across the action to make sure of the difference of the front bridge to the rear bridge.

there is no difference in height from front to rear on this one. Thanks.

Looks like these will fit the bill.

ok the CZ bases do not fit, too big, the dove tail too narrow.

found out they are 6-48 screws,

and the marlin 336 two piece bases will work but the screws are the wrong size when you get the marlin bases.

so I have to get the marlin rear base for the 336 and then go buy two screws (6-48) to hold them in.

what a pain!

and of course I get to return all the parts I ordered that don't work! :(
