View Full Version : A new way to lube

I have been looking at alternatives to a bench mounted lubrisizer as I just cant afford the expense right now. Tried pan lubing but its messy and does not always work as well as Id like. So...

I dreamed up this idea. A hand held lubrisizer!

I stripped down a grease gun, cleaned it out and removed all the one-way valves (saved the parts in case I need to replace any of them to keep lube from being pressed out continuously). I stripped out the grease nipple attachment and inserted a washer drilled to my bullet diameter.

Now I just need to fill it with lube and test it out. Intended method of use is to insert bullet-base first, pump it to pressurize lube and allow bullet to eject through washer cleaning off excess lube in the process.

As with many of my DIY projects I expect to do some fine tuning, but thats half the fun. Hoping my Ben's Red will flow ok in it.

If lube pushes the bullet out then the cavity will be filled with lube after wards. You may have lube on the base and making inserting the next bullet hard to do.

I may be missing something here. If you put a Boolit in and pump the grease gun won't that just push the boolit out as the lube pushes on the boolit base? I'm not seeing how the lube will get to the side of the boolit and into the grease groves. Then with the tube filled with lube you won't be able to put a second boolit in. At least that's how I see it. Let us know.

Did I mention I will need to do some fine tuning?
Yes I think I may need to heat the tube holding the lube somewhat to make it flow easily. Will be testing it as soon as I can and will post results.

Mecham lube sizers work similar to what your trying to do but the lube comes in from the sides, bullets are pushed thru push bullet in lube push out with next bullet going in. WHat you may want to try is a aluminum block with 1/8" national pipe threaded hole in side to a hole 90* to it at bullet dia clearence then bullet can be pushed in lubed and pushed thru with next one.

The old master H.M. Pope and others were using hand held lube pumps of their own making at Schuetzen matches over 100 years ago! There bullets were tapered and the lube die was bored to same taper just a couple .001" over.

Love do it yourself projects on the cheap! Hope ya get it to work to your specs. I went to powder coating to cure my lube woes. Love the results. Easy cheap and little mess, cooking them.takes the longest.

Maybe a plumbing "tee" mounted on your grease gun.
similar to what this guy mounted on a tube of Wonder Lube.

Working on an attachment that works similar to a lubericiser die. One needs the internal piston to minimize mess from pressurized lube. Enjoying my little project though.

Will PC handle 3000fps and over?
