Been lurking for a while. I know you need the background information.
Been shooting 50 years, reloading smokeless since late 80s, black since the early 80s.
Rifles, muskets, pistols, muzzle, breech, rev-war artillery.

I am on the never-ending accuracy quest using a 2003 .45 2.1 inch Pedersoli barrel.

I load 2.105 cases, 70 grs 2F, .03 wad, compressed, .2 grease cookie, .03 wad, down .25, 450gr patched to .449-450 diameter.

Do you think it might help to fill out the throat area by adding another patch to .458 on top of the first patch so you end up with a dual diameter patch, .458 for the throat and then the .450 going up the pipe.

Thoughts?

No. Seat the bullets .200 deep in the case and use a Lyman taper crimp die and you are good to go. Maybe.

Your rifle has a good throat for paper patch, but the 1-18 twist might be just a tad fast for a 450 grain bullet. Try a bullet 1.3 inches long, or about 510 grains and watch the rifle come alive.

I'm not guessing about this--I have a couple of 45 caliber Pedersolis.

Thanks for the info.

Regarding the 510gr lead, what naked diameter do you use, patched to what diameter?

I do not cast so is there a source? I know buffarms has the 500's.
