Wondering if anyone out there could post a picture of a No. 1 with the Ruger double offset rings. Getting weary of stretching my neck to get a full field of view from my old Leupold 3X on my #1 in .45/70. Any other suggestions are also welcome. Thanks

Those rings are from Ruger, but as I have discovered they don't seem to sell them any more. My own #1 has a picatinny rail on it, made by Evolution Gun Works. Not the prettiest thing but it lets the scope be in the right place and has 20 min. of cant built in so I can shoot further if I feel the need.

These are Leupold rings, and with this 4X Leupold scope, they still don't move the scope back far enough for my liking.

Ruger offset rings only give you about 5/8" or so of rearward setback. I still have to crawl on the stock. Frank

Thanks for the pics and responses. I can't find anything on Leupolds website. Couldn't find anything on EGW"s either. Ruger shows the #90276 offset in stock. I see Burris has a "Ruger to Weaver" base set but not sure if that would help any.

It appears that your 4X Leupold is one of the Compact models, that have a much shorter main tube than many older scopes.

The only #1 I saw with a scope besides mine was also a #1 in 45/70 and the guy shooting it had one of the leupold 1x4 variables on it. Still think the #1 buttstock was designed for iron sights only as when I got it was easy to use the factory irons from ruger. Then the problems then started when I switched to scopes. Frank

One of the problems is that scopes have changed since the #1 was designed. It works fine with the old Weaver and Leupold scopes that had fairly long tubes. The modern type scopes just can't be put in the right place to be comfortable, especially the ones with a big eye box that prevents them from being mounted close to the bore and in the right place for good eye relief.

I have two #1''s set up with the Ruger (offset) extention rings..I am using the Leupold VX3 1.5X5 scopes.
These have more eye relief than most scopes. They work out fine for me.
A good alternative to the low powered scope is the New England Custom Guns Peep Sight with their gold Partridge front sight..

Finally got the BO4 rings new in the package. The offset was beneficial. The scope was an older Leupold 3x and is still too far forward. Overall, much improved. The ring came from OpticsPlanet where this item appears to be regularly stocked. The ring is medium height. It did help greatly but looks goofy on the rifle. It's not a matter of stock design as much as the quarter rib location.
