I am new to swaging and have played a lil bit but figured I would ask what combinations you veterans are using to get you favorite bullets.

Im thinking I would like to work up some 45s here soon 180-200gr for easier on powder stash plinking and 230gr for everything else. I plan on using 40sw brass at first so got to figure out trim lengths.

I used an untrimed 40 case last night and since I loaned my scale i just cut different lengths of some wire I had on hand and ended up with a 278gr hp. Taking with a member here and he said that he gets 230 grain with an untrimed case just wondering what are the capabilities of ch4d 101 dies

I am fairly new to 45 swaging but have messed around with 2 lengths of jackets, some 40 S&W brass, and 1/2" pipe. I have also found that I need a short case for most of my swaging when it comes to the 40 S&W brass. A couple of the bullets listed even have 1/2" pipe->jackets
I noticed that a nice jig can be bought for $30 to use a hobby chop saw for cutting brass. I am exploring one of these but BTsniper's approach of using a case trimmer and a saw looks much more adjustable for different sizes.

Post some pictures, I am using RCE walnut hill and corbin R dies at this time.

I've been going mental on 200 and 230 grain 45 using RCE dies and press. Using RCE 0.58" jackets that weigh between 23.8 and 24.1 grains. I use an NOE 5-cavity 363-200 mold which throws mystery metal (range scrap) at 208 grains. So swaging down that to 206 is trivial to then get a total weight of 230 grains. For 200 grain, I use the same jackets and a Lee 6-cavity 401-175 to swage 176 grain cores. The 200's have virtually no exposed lead. The 230's have maybe 1/16" exposed lead.

Well I decided to order some RCE jackets today and plan on casting some lee 401-175-tc in pure for my cores. Just got to wait for the jackets now.

Well I got the jackets today and it worked out well. I ended up making ten to try them out and they ranged from 204.6 to 207.3 so not to bad. I still need to work with the dies a lil bit to get a better feel for how to set them.

A little more playing with the dies tonight and turned out a decent looking bullet. I ran the jacket and core in to form a open base enclosed hollowpoint. Guess I have some testing to do here soon
