good morning, yesterday i fired 25 rounds of 45-70. soft cast boolits from my new mihec mold, .462 solid base pins. they drop at 422gr with soft lead, used as cast. 14gr unique, wlr primers, fl sized, .459 neck. gently crimped to remove the flare. they mic'd from the mold at .463. the lube is a 50/50 mix of beeswax and olive oil, dip lubed. the firearm is a winchester 1885 miroko with a 3to7 scope set at 7x. at 100yds my best group was 1 inch in two dimensions, 8 shots. very slight leading in the first 2 or 3 inches of rifling. they load to the point of just barely leaving rifling marks on the boolit. im hoping this trend continues. ill be loading and shooting many more before deer/bear season! im guessing this is somewhere around 1300 to 1400fps. would someone chime in with an idea of fps? also any suggestions on improving this load? thank you irishtoo.

How long is the barrel? Unless it is out there in 28 inch range I'd be surprised if your load exceeds 1200 FPS by much if any. If you are getting groups running under 1.5 inches for 5 shots, I've got nothing for improving the accuracy of your load. If you want more power and a flatter trajectory, I'd try 50 grains of Varget for right at 1600 fps from a 26 inch barrel Marlin. I have an RCBS that casts about 425 that does pretty well with that load. It is the hottest load that I care to shoot, though still well under 25,000 CUP.

I can also vouch for 50gr of Varget. I use that as my standard deer and hog medicine out of my Marlin 1895 GS. Shoots 2" groups at 100yds all day long with my low powered scope. There's room to increase the charge, but with the accuracy, there's no need.
