I acquired a Marlin 57M.

How do I use the factory mounting holes on the side of the receiver to connect Redfield 75 peep sights?

As I recall, the Model 75 sight was a miniature Redfield "International" match rifle sight and thus requires a separate mounting base as it does not mount directly to the rifle's receiver. Do you have the separate base and is your Model 57 drilled and tapped for one with two small filler screws on the left side of the receiver? The Model 75 bases were generally designed for small round receiver rifles and not a flat sided rifle like your Model 57.

The Model 75 sight was common on Winchester Model 75 and Remington 521/540X small bore match rifles.

By the way, I shot a lot of cottontails with my Dad's Marlin Model 57 growing up.

The Marlin does have a pair of factory tapped holes on the left side of the flat receiver.

My Redfield sight does not have the adapter plate, thus one is needed to connect to this rifle.

That should be a fairly easy project for a machinist I think. I grabbed this photo off of the Web and it should give you an idea of what is needed.

Another option that you might consider is the Lyman lever action aperture that was made fore the Model 39 Marlin. It will fit the hole spacing and the windage arm should be about the right width for the Model 57.

The 75 was also used on Rem 513. A lot of 513s and RF 75 were sold by CMP a few years back. There should be quite a few bases around. Try Numerich.

I located what appears to be a suitable base at Numerich. Now to wait for the order to arrive!

There is a guy on eBay who makes the screw for the base if you need one.
Win6798 is his handle.
