Normally I use B-Dot when I use these, but I have some 800X on the shelf. Where I read about 800X I can't remember but does anyone have any recipes for 800X with AA hulls?<----For the 525gr slugs

Links.....recipes.... work just fine.

Hey Grumpa, see page 28. It is generally considered safe to use lead shot weight for equivalent slug weights. Lots of choices here for differents components.

It is not mentioned what shell is used, but the 5th Edition of Lyman's Shotshell Reloading Handbook has a number of slug loads using the Lyman 525 and 800X powder. If you don't have the Handbook (and you should) post what gauge and shell you plan to use, and I'll give you the listed load.

the AA hulls are not in the 5th ed for slugs, if i remember due to its is not a strait walled hull, I use approx 30gr 800x fed 12s4 wads and a Remington buckshot hull(hunting high brass strait wall w/ 1/4 plastic base wad) and a win 209 primer in mine and it works good in my old Ithaca

I reread the original post and the AA shell is listed. The Lyman 5th doesn't list a load with 800X for the 2 3/4" AA hull and the 525 slug; nor do they list one for the similar internal volume Remington STS. It does list loads for the larger internal volume "straight walled" hulls like the Federal Gold Medal, Federal plastic and Fiocchi hulls.

For right now I'm using 24GR of 800X in the AA with W209 primer and Claybuster wad. Although mild by most standards at 30' with a rifled barrel its pretty accurate.

1200 fps @ only 6100 psi. That ought to be easy on the shoulder and a great 50 yd load.

Oh believe me when I say these are going to be gifted to someone that can be classified as a wuss. Recoil is something he can't handle and even using what I deem wuss loads he would call extreme....

Do you know what kinda muzzle velocity you getting? i want to use this for a subsonic load for my salvo 12. I will be using these out of a shorter barrel to so it will build less velocity, by shorter barrel I am talking about 12.5" of barrel.:bigsmyl2:

I wouldn't have a clue to be honest. I do have a Chrony but I'm not inclined to set it up. I've heard some wicked stories about using Chronies with shot gun wads whacking the krap out of them. I just don't want to take the chance since it's the only 1 I own..

I understand completely.
