I have a 700ADL in .243Win I am seriously considering rechambering to .358Win for a cast bullet gun to play with. Any suggestions on barrels to consider or gunsmiths to use? Is it possible to keep this around 400$?

Yet to use him, but hear good feedback, and plan to send a cpl 336s to him for rebore to 38-55 and 356 Win shortly

Looks interesting but im not sure I want to reuse my old barrel it has some vice marks from a shoddy gunsmithing attempt in the past. Does he do any twist rates you ask for whats best for cast loads?

Best to call him, I think. Far as I know, he does not rebarrel.

Wonder what he does with the barrel stamp when he rebores them it would drive me nuts to have a .358 barrel stamped .243.

And 3,4 or 5 groove.

My barrel was stamped to 358, started as 308.

A good person to talk to would be goodsteel. He knows the 358 Winchester, and is a very knowledgeable guy. He might do the work for you. He is building me a 358 Winchester off a mauser action.

In 2013, I rebarrelled a Savage with a Shaw kit from Midway to 358. Shoots GREAT, my only complaint is that is a heavy profile barrel. When I tire of messing with my Yugo M-48, I will have Jess rebore a lighter weight barrel, 1 in 14 twist, 2 possibly 3 groove.
My Shaw is 1 in 14 twist. You'll love the 358, Flyer

I recently had JES rebore a Sako L579 sporter from 243 to 358. I choose a 5 groove, 1/12 bore and I am extremely pleased. Barrel is stamped 358 but original 243 left on top of barrel. I posted my initial results in another response and I still have some fine tunining but it shot less than 1 MOA. I am extremely satisfied with JES.

Called around today and ER Shaw is 6 months behind and that seems to be the norm with everybody. I haven't gotten a call back from JES yet so not sure with them. Crazy to me that there are that many people buying custom barrels out there.

Edit just got off the phone with Jessie and he said a week to week and a half so I think Im going for it.

How has that rebore worked for you? Does it cycle the cartridges okay? I have a 99F in 308 I'm considering sending to JES to convert to 358.

I have a 700ADL with a Dougles 358 barrel on. I bought it used used for $650 and it shoots great. Sadly the rifle does not get used much any more. good luck to you.

A 99F is a pretty collectable piece. I have a 99E in .308 I've been thinking about having this done to, but it's such a good shooter as is. I have a .358 99, but it has a straight wrist and the tang safety, two features I'd like changed.

The .358 in a Savage 99 is a wonderful combo.

It works flawlessly. No issues cycling cartridges. All of mine are converted LC308 brass. I would not rebore a 99F unless it's really beat up. Mine is an E. I'd try to find an E or C cheap since they command the least amount of money and have little collector value. Only downside to the E is the cheap stock. But there are options for replacement. Mine now has a NOS stock from a C.

The stock on mine is in pretty rough shape and the bluing is badly faded. It's a very good shooter though, 1.5 inch groups at 100 yards vs. 3 inch groups from my 99F in 300 savage which is in much better physical shape. I'm not committed to the project yet.

I had a win model 70 (pictured) that I put on a Pac-Nor barrel on that was what they call a pre-fit
meaning its chambered and head spaced and all that has to be done is have the old barrel removed
and have the new one fit to action
it has been a great fit for me killed some whitetail and one bull elk with it
