Hi all

Doing a bit of research, and thought I'd ask you guys what you know about ammo plants in Texas.

I know there are a bunch of licensed ammo manufacturers in Texas just from a casual glance at the ATF dealer list sorting by Class 6 or higher. But, that's inexact and it doesn't really speak to what sort of volume they may output. I'm interested in anything with REAL volume attached. Even a set of fully autodriven Dillon Super 1050's are a big notch down in bullets/hour from what I'm focused upon.

Anybody know of specific companies in Texas I can look into?

Has maybe a half dozen or so Camdex machines.

I wouldn't under estimate manual production though.

Can make a lot of ammo in a day.

I was aware of Freedom Munitions, but I was confused by where they were based. I see their retail store is located in Houston. But their facebook page shows Lewiston, Idaho. Dug on their website a bit and found their production equipment appears to be in Houston. That's close enough for a drive to check them out. Do they provide tours?

don't know--I reload my own and just drive past it on way to Harbor Freight across the parking lot

Ah, I read right past it the first time. Freedom Munitions makes all their ammo in Idaho.

RIO is opening/or has opened a shotshell mfg facility in Marshall, Harrison County, Texas. Over 60 new jobs as I remember and was supposed to be operating by late December, 2014.

There are a ton of small ones, but Tyler Texas is getting a Rio shotgun shell plant up and running sometime before summer starts.

Didn't know about Rio, so that's another good one.

Ok. We have two shotshell manufacturers, and one pistol/rifle so far. In terms of size, from what I can find online the Texas operations are still fairly small. I'm judging by the physical of the buildings they are in, volume of cars in the parking lot (for staff) etc.

Yeah most of them are. There's half a dozen in Houston. There use to be one in Conroe called Collins Cartridge Company that made FINE ammo. I dunno if they are still in business as the founder Art Collins died a few years back. They might be, it was mostly a family operation. If you are askin about MAJOR plants there are none that I know of.

Oncefired, define "REAL volume" might help answer your question.

Real volume = you'd call it a factory, not a business. That level of magnitude.

Rio in Marshall is estimating 68 full time production employees plus office and management when in full production. Source Marshall Chamber of Commerce.

I have used GoodtoGoAmmo.com and have nothing good to say about them. The were originally run out of Allen, Texas but they just opened a store in Garland, Texas.

I ordered 5k of 9mm cheap, from GoodToGo several years back for our old farts shooting group and as I remember it was from Allen, but product was shipped from Utah. Maybe they have production facilities in Texas now.

I'll check out GoodToGo. They're listed as FFL 06 in Garland, so they must be manufacturing.

I have also found Parabellum Research, just south of Austin. They've got significant equipment visible in their YouTube videos.

I have also found Parabellum Research, just south of Austin. They've got significant equipment visible in their YouTube videos.

I see 4 or 5 different Camdex loaders/processors and at least one of their new trimmers.

There web page shows a photo of 12 or so 1050's. The slide show on the main page also shows 4 adults and two children out front of the building, not sure if that is "staff" or just a family photo.

Figure out how many rounds a week they ship out and you would know.

With two processing and one loading on their equipment, I would guess about 120,000/wk shipped.

@buckwheatpaul - any idea how big the operation is at AmmoBiz? I can't find anything indicative one way or the other from their website or Facebook.

@jmorris - yeah, they've got a decent setup @ Parabellum. I should go visit them - they are in the south Austin area.
