I recently picked up a handi in 243. I was talking to a guy at the LGS and he was saying that he couldn't get his to shoot j-words under 100 grains. I got some 80 grainers from my brother in law and started working on some loads and they are shooting ok so far. I ran a fairly tight patch down the bore, after a thorough cleaning, and have one turn in ten (more or less). Does any one know for sure what the twist rate is on these.

I did the same test with mine and got the same result. I am not sure, but I think the ultra varmint model had a 1 in 12" twist.

100 grain 6mm bullets actually stretch the limits of a 10 twist to stabilize them. I've never had them shoot good in my 10 twist barrels. On a well worn barrel it gets worse. Always figured that's why you see 85 and 90 grain game bullets in 6mm. Plus you'll note a few 9 1/2" twist barrels of late from factories.
