What's the melting point of 60/40 solder?

Solidus-367
liquidus-374

Really!? I thought that this was a eutectic alloy.

63/37 (tin/lead and commonly called 60/40) solder melts at 361 F.

Eutectic alloy such as 84/12/4 lead, antimony, tin (linotype) is solidus at 462 F and liquidus at 463 F.

Maximum hardness of lead/tin alloys is 17 BHN at 63% tin and 37% lead (commonly known as 60/40 solder). Very expensive, very light weight bullets. Anyone up to doing some velocity testing? [smilie=1:

Interesting pdawg, that's the first time I've heard of 60/40 and 63/37 seperatley. All the literature I've read said simply that 63/37 was generally referred to as 60/40.

I copied the chart, thanks for the link.

Kenneth, it is, but you are thinking about the pure stuff: 63-37 which we are very luck to obtain. The radiator shops might use that, but I doubt it. Never tested for 0 slush in the stuff that Corky and I got. ... felix

Another good electronic solder is 62Sn 36Pb 2Ag, again light bullets unless mixed with wheel weights and then it casts pretty bullets.
