If this has been talked about before just direct me to it. I was trying 4227 and kinda in a love hate relationship with that powder, thinking of trying lilgun. Any one find any powder that fills the void 4579 will leave when supplies are gone?

I used 4759 in my 30-30 T/C contender for IHMSA silhouettes. I will be giving RL-7 a try as soon as this blasted cold weather goes away.

kinda depends upon intended use ....

aa 5744,4227 are a bit more versatile than lil gun ,aa 1680 does well but a bit more limited as well , for a slower side 4198 and even 4895
there's only a few powders i'd classify as universal ( eg; cover a broad spectrum well ) on the top of that list is ye olde black powder , a slightly compacted case will work in just about any caliber lolz

Depends on your application, but I'm finding 5744 to be very similar in my 45-70

nekshot I am on the look out for the same. There is just so much data across the board for 4759 it will be years if ever that a true replacemnt is ever found. I have tried 5744 and reloader 7, neither have the applications of 4759. Neither have given the excellent results of 4759.
I get the same answers, most folks have not used it in as broad a spectrum as some. After my initial use of this in the 30-30, I then tried it in other cases with the same good to excellent results. I have used it in everything so far from the 357 maximum to the 458 Lott. I sure never figured it is a nitch market powder
I had high hopes for the reduced load 4895. It goes bang and it is softer recoiling but results on target were disappointing to say the least.

I managed to buy some Alliant 300MP awhile back. Tried it in my 41mag RBH Hunter and Mosin Nagant. Just a touch slower than SR4759 and measures much better.
Got the highest velocity in the 41mag with the Seaco 220gr TC boolit, over 1,500 fps with excellent accuracy. The MN has a 3X pistol scope on it and I was able to get 1" to 1 1/2" groups at 100 yards.
Haven't seen the 300MP on the shelf lately so it might be a bit before it is available again.

300MP was the first powder that came to my mind after reading the OP, even though I have never used it. Like SR4759, it's a tad slower than the ever-popular 2400 and H110. How's the density, compared to SR4759?
