Has anyone had the pleasure of shooting a carbine chambered for the .43 Spanish with a factory black powder load? Local shop has one. However the barrel on it is possibly is the worst I have ever seen with horrible wood for $450. Priced way to high for me.

Yep. Way to high. Anyone that knows what it is won't give that for it. Let it sit on the shealf a few wedks and then make him Your offer ha. If the barrel is that bad you gonna have to turn right around and rebarrel or reline it.

My 43 is a long barrel but I have shot my 71 Mauser carbines with 60 gr 2F and they are a hoot to shoot, not too abusive at all. The 2 cartridges are almost identical. I use the Lyman .446 boolit in both.

I have an Argentine carbine that I shoot quite a bit. It works well, but I wish I had a rifle instead. That little gun sure has plenty of blast and recoil! But when you touch it off, everything else stops and folks all come over to see what is making such a racket.

The action alone ,if in good shape, might be worth $300 for a builder. You can put almost any black powder cartridge barrel on it. I have made many into 45-70 because the ammo is easy to find. The later #5 action will take several different smokeless cartridges.

I have a argentine 1879 rifle, 36" barrel. A bit long for me. Thought a carbine might be a better deal for me to pack around the forest. Nobade can I pm you?
