OK I have been shooting the standard GC bullet out of my Handie rifle for a few weeks and it works great

Lets just say I am the limmiting factor when it comes to group size

But I also want a lighter plain based bullet for plinking

I picked up a extra 2 gang mould and am planing on machining off enough , to remove the GC shank
Hopefuly droping the weight to 380 or so gr

My questions are

Would I be producing a bullet to nose heavy to properly stabalize ?

Would I be better off using a mill or chucking it up in the lathe ?

Would there be any advanage to filling the cavitys with lead before starting the process ?

I figure the worst I can do is trash a cheap Lee mould

Thanks
John

...............I don't think deleting the GC is going to mess up the boolit's ability to shoot. You'll still have more then 50% of the weight back in the body. If you have access to a mill I'd use it, as setup would be a lot easier then in a lathe. You're facing, and that's something the mill was intended for.

My brother had this done to a Magma .501 mould. It now shoots better than it did with the GC for some reason. I'm guessing the milling squared up the base. A Lee 2 cavity is a good one to try it on.
