I saw this picture on the news a day or so ago they were speaking of it going viral on the net, If it not photo shopped its sure a rare sight and very lucky to get a picture. I heard humming birds hitch rides on geese to go migrate but never seen a picture of it.

I first thought it was a joke until I read what the photographer said.The woodpecker survived this time.

That photo violates what little I know about the laws of ornithological aeronautics but it certainly looks legit. One possibility of the blurred background is that the woodpecker is not actually flying.
