i have a couple of questions about the mle 1907-15 m34 mas in 7.5x54mm(7.5 french). my dad has one and i looked at it(with mild envy in my eyes:-D) and i decided that it could be a cast shooter. so i have a few questions before i "steal" it:bigsmyl2:...
i know i'll have to clean the barrel out(i really wish it doesn't take as long as the 30-40:holysheep)

1. i found out it is .308: dia. sorry about the question.

2. does it kill whitetails as well as the 30-40 krag?

3. what powder/ boolit weight is the best?

4. where can i find reloading data for it?

heres a pic in case i do "steal" it from dad.:kidding:

You sure on the chamber? It should have started life as a 8x50R lebel

it says 7.5 caliber, i'm assuming its the 7.5 french.

he has another full military rifle that has chatellerault mle 1907-15 and it has no chamber markings. i think it is a 8mm lebel.

Those are sought after a bit by the collectors. A stop gap alteration until the new rifle came on line. Load data is a bit hard to come by, but the Lee 2nd edition has a bunch of loads. I have a Handloader article(Issue #145) with 150 gr 26-2700 fps loads and 180 gr ~2400 fps loads.

I never knew the converted some Berthier's to 7.5 french. My brother has one I load for in 8MM Lebel, butt ugly but shoots cast pretty well.

they both are butt ugly:dung_hits_fan: but i think the 7.5 french might be a shooter, well for deer anyway!

Cartridge has similar ballistics to 7.62x51. Data is not interchangeable. Graf's has brass in stock.

Hornady 8th edition and very likely the 9th edition has load data. The military round was 139gr. I load 150gr hunting bullets in mine and 147gr FMJs.

My rifle is the 49-56 auto loader.

I don't know enough about your rifle to say if its safe to shoot 150gr jacketed bullets at "normal" velocity.

It should however be a good cast boolit shooter.

The case capacity is slightly more than a .308 Win. but normal velocity is less.

It shouldn't be hard to get a nice shooting cast load either sub-sonic or super sonic.

Should be about equal to your Krag. You could safely start with the same loads.

From what I've heard 7.5 is a good round. You can get brass from ppu on grafs
