I've got a question about the stainless pin sizes for tumbling. My pins are .041 and I get none stuck in the flash holes. I want to add 3 or 4 pounds more pins to the mix. I could not find any .041 pins anywhere. I bought 10 pounds of .047 pins and may mix them with the .041's. The rep I ordered the pins from says that the flash holes are typically .080 + or - and that they will mix and cause no more of a stuck pin hazard as .041 + .047 come out to .088. Any one done this?

Looks to me like it would work. My pins are .041 and once in a while I find 2 stuck in a flash hole, but not very often. Must be the .080 flash hole with a little extra + on it.

I switched from .041" to .047" pins as I was getting stuck pins in flash holes in about 3 % of cases with the smaller pins. Result - zero stuck pins. I substituted the pins rather than mix them.

I did the same with my commercial tumbler. In fact, just received another 10 pounds of .047, 5 pounds will be to replace the stock .041 pins in my FART. I usually just sell the old .041 pins.

If you are like me and leave two .041 pins in a 5lb batch of .047 pins those two will stick in a flash hole for sure. Murphy is in my shop on a regular basis.

I get 10 lbs. of .047 stainless pins for $65.50 delivered 2 day priority. Not a vender here so I can't tell you where in the forum. Rod
