I know its not a military round but its kind of related. Do you guys think 14 grs of 2400 would work behind a 220 grn lead projectile in the 358 win.?

Thanks

do a search for 358 here on the site.
Another suggestion to glean data for the 358 would be to post this same info request on the "cast boolit" section of this site. There is a lurker there that has been know to discuss the 358 as if it is a viable boolit shooter.

Just a suggestion of course

I shoot 17.5 of 2400 in an 8 X 57 with a 232 gr. cast bullet all the time.

Works fine.

There isn't that much difference in the rounds, ( the 358 Win and the 8 X 57 mm) when shooting mild cast bullet loads. The 358 has a greater expansion ratio, pressures should drop not increase when comparing the same to the 8 X 57 mm.

I'd think that the 358 Win. with a 220 gr. cast bullet with 14 up thru 17 grs. of 2400 would be fine.

17 gr 2400 ='s 1450 FPS with the LIE-man 358315 or the RCBS 200 out of my 20 in barrel 358 Win.

good luck

thanks for the replies guys. I was pretty sure that was a safe load but not much published info using 2400 in a 358win.

flhroy,
I use 17 gr. 2400 in my custom .358 with a 240 gr. cast Lyman 358318 which I DIDN'T cast and it will shoot under 1/2 inch at 50 yds.---haven't chroned it (I'm guessing in the 1500 fps. range! Mild pressure! Wouldn't hestiate to take a close range deer with it though !

I wouldn't have any problem with going as high as 22 grains of 2400 behind a 220 grain boolit in .358 Win. The .35 Whelen can handle 30 grains of 2400 behind a 358009 (280 grains)!
