I am shooting a Ruger Redhawk in 44 Mag with a 7.5" barrel, and have various weight bullets that a friend cast for me ranging from 220 grain up to 320 grains. And I have a mold for the 320 grain boolits with gas checks. My brother gave me an 8 pound red round tin can of Hercules 2400 that I need to shoot up since he wants the antique can back for his reloading shop wall. I found loadings for the boolits 245 grains and lighter in the Lyman Third Edition of the cast bullet handbook. Where might I find loadings for 2400 for the 320 grain boolits? Or does anybody have suggestions? I plan to shoot mid-range or light loads with this and use my usual H110 for the deer loads.

I wouldn't shoot light loads with it but 75% - 90% of max is nice with H2400.

My pet load is 17.0gr H2400 under the Lee C430-310-RF boolit cast 50/50+2%, seated to the bottom crimp groove. Velocity is 1180-1200f/s this is not a max load but it's very accurate and doesn't lead the bore.

You may get close with some of the load data here:

You might think about getting a used yellow plastic anti-freeze 1 gallon container and wash it out and dry insides and switch the powder to it so you can give the tin back to your relative. My father in law did this in the 60's when he bought 8 pound kegs of surplus H-4831 powder and I am using the powder today as it is still good. Do not have to worry about rust on the inside of the container. Just be sure not to use a clear container that allows light in. also the plastic container cap is more air and moisture proof for not allowing humid air into the container. Be sure to label it and date it so you know what it is a couple years down the line.

I load 21.0 gr of 2400 under a 240 gr JSP for use in my Rossi 92 and Super Blackhawk. Very accurate load and recoil isn't uncomfortable, YMMV.
