I'm not sure if this thread belongs in Favorite Loads or here but since the key point is Velocities between boolits and bullets (J-type) I figured I'd go with this page.
I tried 11 different loads in my SRH .480 Ruger over the weekend. The two most accurate were:
BA Bore 370 GR HPGC, Speed Green, CCI350, 25.0gr W296. Got about a 2.5" 6 shot group at 35 yds (I stink with pistols!) Velocities:
1260
1250
1251
The other most accurate load was:
Speer 325gr GDFP (found some on the shelf from when I first got the pistol and didn't have any .476 molds yet), CCI-350, W296 25.0gr. 2" group Velocities:
1220
1240
1257
My point is with the same load (except the boolit/bullet) Cast allowed a 14% increase in projectile weight with no loss in velocity! (Actually there was a very slight increase! )
Pretty cool!
