I recently picked up an old LEE 214gr SWC mold from one of the nice members here. It casts beautifully, and I've been wanting to play around with it in my 44 Magnum Rossi 92. I cannot seem to find any data for it though. I have H110, Red Dot, and Trail Boss on hand. Does anyone know of a load that would work?

Thanks!

Red Dot 6.0 grs.

I would try these first, I always err to the heavy side.

Thanks fellas. Any idea as to the velocity with the 6gr Red Dot load?

Try here: http://castpics.net/dpl/

You can use data for 210 to around 220 gr with faster burning powders. As always, start low, and work your way up carefully.

I use 7 grs of 231 for about 900 fps out of a SBH. As posted above 6 grs of Red Dot or Bullseye would be same/same.

I was going to estimate about 850. It likes my hypothesis would be realistically close.

Any of the loads listed for the 429-215 should work just fine. Every Lyman Reloading Manual since 1957 has had loads listed for that boolit. A load I like for my Redhawk is the afore mentioned boolit over 26.5 grains of H-110--it runs over 1700 fps out of a 7.5 inch barrel. Good lube is a must.

I have had excellent results from many 44 mags with the Saeco #420 200gr tc 7.0 grs of Bullseye or Tightgroup powder for about 950 fps out of a revolver.

I use 7.8 grains of Red Dot in my Marlin 1894S .44-40 with the Accurate 43-230G bullet for 1250 fps. from a 20" barrel.

The .44 Magnum case has 8% less capacity, so reduce the charge a bit to about 7.0-7.5 grains.

I tried the 6gr load of Red Dot, and it shot pretty darn good. I can definitely work with it from there. :D

I'm also happy to say that the bullet feeds in my gun nice and smoothly. I've heard of some people having issues with SWCs in their lever guns, but mine seems to handle them just fine.

Is that 26.5gr load of H110 a Ruger only load, or is it fine in any 44 mag?

I shot a lot of that bullet out of that mold in my win 94.
My recipe was 7 gr of unique and a heavy crimp. Shot 2" groups at 50 yrds.
Glad that mold is workin out for you

That particular boolit locks up my Marlin tighter than Dick's hatband every time I try to cycle one. The rifle feeds all my other RN and SWCs fine. Beats me.

I'm loving it. :D

Unique used to be my go to powder, but I can't find it around here any more. All I can find is Red Dot and Green Dot in small amounts.

I've heard using it in a 44 special might fix the feeding issues.
