Hello. This is going to be my first attempt at reloading shotshell. I did cast up a bunch of #00 and lee 7/8 slug. I figured it would be just like pistol as far a just grab a book and look up the data. I did get the lyman 5th shotshell book but there is nothing listed for lee slugs and several for #00. I can not seem to find any of the powder around that is listed for the buckshot. I was able to grab some titewad and some shot so I figured I would load that til I can figure out the #00 and slug thing. I am using the AA hulls and have the claybuster waa12sl and wt12-waa12 replacemnt wads.
So to my question. Where can I find more data for #00 and lee slugs? I tried to call some powder places and one said they had no information on 7/8 and the other told me there was only one powder listed. Lee told me to contact the powder company.
One shop around had unique and claydot but I was told that was too fast for buckshot and slugs.

Thanks

I use Ballistic Products "Advantages Manual" as a reference for buck and slug loading data. You can order the manual on their website. Should have what you need. Also I have their specialty manuals, "Buckshot Manual" and "Slug Loading Manual" with more specific data.

Start by reading this classic thread: http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?107590-Payload-Substituting

If you accept that you can swap slugs and/or buckshot into any given load, then your search is much easier.

You can also look here for specific Lee slug loads: http://www.ballisticproducts.com/load14_04_25.htm and also http://www.ballisticproducts.com/load14_06_13.htm

Personally, I just use any "24 gram International" load data with 7/8 oz. Lee slugs, and those always work well for me.

Ok I found the hs-6 powder and and the waa-12 claybuster replacement wads and the win 209 primer and went with the 38gr that was listed with the mold. It seemed like the slug still sat low in the wad. I added some cork I bought at the and made a punch from a copper fitting. The lee pamphlet did not say anything about adding anything else. Will the cork add anything to the pressures of the load? I did test fire several today and they shot ok at 25yds and the recoil was not bad at all and ejected from a pump action fine. Is this a safe pratice? Thanks

C ork isn't strong enough in the wad. You'll need 2 - 20 ga. 1/8" hard cards in the wad to get the slug raised slightly above the wad petals. I've had success with the lee 7/8 slug out of smoothbore.
