What's it good for, other than silhouette? I have 357 mags and a good PC 44 mag. I have a friend that wants to sell me a 95%+ Dan Wesson. I can't remember if it is a 6 or 8" barrel. I just remember it looking like it was new with a high polish blue finish.

I have been playing with the idea of an Encore rifle in 357 Max. I just don't know if I would shoot it enough to be worth the purchase.(the pistol) It just seems like if you have the one, you should have the other.

I have a single shot in 357 Max and I absolutely love it for deer out to 15 yards.

The kids love it at the range ...

That's just about close enuff for bayonetts.:)

Bet you meant 150 yards.

I'm going to get mine (H&R) out and try some black powder with a 180gr boolit.

I "had" a Dan Wesson stainless 8" barreled revolver in 357 Maximum and like a fool I traded it off !

It was an extremely accurate revolver and fun to shoot !

If I had one I would not be scared in the least to deer hunt with it [smilie=1:

Deer out to 15 yards? Well, I remember a few years back hunting with my dad, he actually did shoot a deer at about 15 yards with a 357 max carbine, and the 158 grain JSP did blow a big hole in that deer. I'll bet it's even better at closer range, though I would think you'd be mighty hard pressed to tell the difference. I mean, how much deader than dead can a deer get? So yeah, I guess I'd have to agree, out to 15 yards(at least) the 357 max is a real deer slayer!

Sheesh ... fat fingers and not enough brains.

Sorry for the mis-print. I meant to say 150 yards.

I have a Dan Wesson in 357Max and it is very accurate I've taken acouple bucks with it and yes it kills 'em quick and kills 'em dead. i don't shoot it often but would regret selling it 5 mins after it was gone. Also have one of the Rugers just never got around to shooting it. It a fine cartrage and a hoot to shoot. Dennis

Well, I did it. I went over to my bud's tonight and he pulled out the very nice Dan Wesson, Monson, 8" barrelled 357 Max, vent rib,not the full length underlug, and said. "I've got $300 and tax in it. You want it? And he threw in 2 boxes of 20 shells. What could I say? (of course I went over there with money in my pocket) And then he proceed to cook me a 16 ounce New York strip.

So the question is, the bullets are 158 grain softpoints. Should I pull the bullets and reload the cases with a heavier bullet, or should I just shoot them? There is just enough of an undercut to barely hang a fingernail.

Crabo;

If those are original yellow and green box Remington Factory loads I'd stash 'em and try to forget they were there, then buy a couple hundred rounds of Starline cases and load whatever you like.

Remington hasn't made that ammo for several years and they're worth over a dollar a pop.

Just my opinion.

No, they are Cabella's Obsolete Brand

Any idea what this gun is worth?

I don't think Starline makes .357 Max. If they do, I'll take 500.

The longest 357 brass Starline makes is 360 DWM. For new 357 max brass, you have your choice of Remington, Remington, or Remington. I was digging around in my ammo storage the other day and found a brand-new box of Winchester 357 max brass--50 count. Wonder how long it's been since Winchester made any of this stuff?

I forgot to mention-shooting those 158 grainers in that Dan Wesson shouldn't hurt a thing. The gas cutting problems occured when guys got cute and tried to push 125 grainers to 2000+ fps. This round was designed for 158 grainers and above, and using lighter slugs in the revolvers is asking for trouble.
And yes, 300 bucks for a Dan Wesson 357 max is a steal.

Starline did make .357 Max cases at one time. Must not have been one of their better sellers. Midway and Cabelas both have them from Remington for $100/500. That ought to be enough to keep you going for a while!

I use the 357Max in a contender for whitetails and mine shoots vey accurately with 180gr Hornady SSP's (single shot pistol??). They are spire points and may be too long for a revolver though.

Im not a fan of 357s on bigger game but using 180s in the max at speed makes it everyting a 41 mag is on deer. never owned one but would sure like to see a 94 marlin made in it.

those wessons are for shooting the heavier heaviest
bullits to top speed.
thats where they shine!
they were designed to knock things over.
so i guess if an animal gets in the way of your silhouette you will have to eat him!

Crabo,

I think you got a very good deal on that gun. I don't see very many 357 Max Dan Wessons for sale too often. I have a 44 Mag and a 445 Supermag. I do not like the idea of setting up for another caliber but I would have a hard time passing up a 357 max Dan Wesson for anything under $500, I might be able to let it go if it had less than a 8" barrel. I have not seen any under $650 on a couple auction sites.

It's nice to hear there are still good deals around

Shouda, coulda, woulda! Our local hardware store had a number of boxes of 357 max ammo, the Remingtons, for years that had been ordered by mistake. They were marked 15.95. I always knew I should buy them and hang on to them and planned to, but other needs took precedent. They finally sold to some individual who drove from Amarillo to buy them, 100 mi. DALE
