Anyone have any suggestions? I've been shooting the NOE clone of the RCBS 200 grain FN in it with good results, thought I'd try a heavier bullet since the deer this year didn't get an exit wound.

The rifle seems to like IMR4320 with the NOE bullet. My old Lyman manual has load data for this bullet in the .358, but only for fast burning powders and velocities top out at about 1500 FPS. Looking for something between 1800-2000 FPS with decent accuracy using a hunting alloy.

Maybe use 250gr jacketed data?

I have no problem loading the RD 359-190 to the 2000fps level, 35-200 should be able to do that as well. Probably more. Any idea how fast your loads are going? I had the RD fail to exit on a large hog once but it shattered both shoulders and dropped him in his tracks.

I don't own a chronograph, but I'm guessing my deer hunting load of that 200 grain bullet and 40 grains of IMR4320 is close to 2,000 FPs. The deer I shot was quartering to me and the bullet went in and back through lengthwise (thought she was closer to broad side), tried to break the shoulders but hit a bit too far back. It was a killing shot, but I'd have guessed it would have exited.

This mold is for a 247 grain, nominally, and it's a single cavity iron mold which should be easier to cast soft points with. I coach a kids air rifle team, so I have a lot of spent .177 pellets. I figure six or so of those to make a soft nose and I have a good hunting bullet.

I may try using 250 grain jacketed data and reducing a bit. That sounds like a good idea now that someone else thought of it for me. I have the 358009 mold, but it sure seems heavier than necessary and it didn't shoot very well in a .35 Whelen I tried it in.

I've used a 235 gr boolit in my 35 Rem and need to revisit that project now that Scopekiller has a scope that she hasn't been able to break-yet. It was a group buy 360-235 "Thor" and it didn't do very well in my 35 Whelen. 336 seemed to like it and to my amazement it actually feeds it quite well also, the nose seemed a bit long. I used around 38grs of LVR but never really found a load it liked.
How does that 358009 feed? Can you cycle it thru the action?

The only rifle I used it in was a Remington 700 in .35 Whelen I have since traded off. It never shot well in it, but to be fair, nothing else really did either. I never have been a fan of Remington 700s (sacreligous to many, I know) and never could really bond with that rifle. The only "powerful" .35s I have now are my .358 Savage 99 and a Handi in .35 Whelen I haven't shot much yet.

I'm gonna cast some of these 358318s tonight or tomorrow and hope to get to a range soon to see how they do.

I cast a fw hundred of these today, nice, easy casting single cavity mold. Very, very few rejects, you gotta love a design like that.

Can't wait to see how they shoot in the 99. If it shoots these as well as everything else (pretty good rifle, I must admit), I plan to cast some soft nosed ones using the Bruceb method and it will probably be my hunting bullet next deer season.

PM me your e-mail and I send you my load development for my Browning BLR-81 in 358 win. I do not have yet cast boolit load data because I have not yet cast due to weather. My loads are mostly using 357 mag jacketed (158gr and 170gr) and also some 358 cal 200gr hornady Interlock jacketed.
My boolit mold is the RCBS 357-180 SIL. I hope I can get a good used RCBS 35-200 FP one of these days.

Like my 357-180 SIL, it casts good boolits. Use 'em in 357 Maximum and 357/44 B&D.

"I hope I can get a good used RCBS 35-200 FP one of these days."

For what an RCBS two cavity costs, you could spend a bit more and get a NOE four cavity with any combo of cavities (I had one hollow pointed). RCBS makes a fine mold, but not as good as NOE in my experience.

NOE makes a version of the 358-318; 360318. Nice boolit.
