i do this to all of my iron sights
the last one on my carry gun lasted six years
the pics are pretty self explanatory
i use the stick pin to position the sticker once in place
then coat it with the polish .
super glue works great as well.

I use tiny rectangles of the blaze Day-Glo orange price tags.
I carefully cut it out,use tweezers to position it on the blade.
Then coat it with super glue.
It lasts for years but can be removed in seconds with nail polish remover.[/QUOTE]

Well that new to me! I have just been using fluorescent model car paint. But I like this method. Seems to be brighter and I could probably pick the front sight up faster. Gunna give this a try! Thank you

One of my M-14 rifles received almost exactly the same sight treatment.I was running a trophy caribou camp in the Barrens of the Northwest Territories (i.e.: north of the treeline). The camp was a 180-mile float-plane trip from civilization.

Grizzlies were coming into camp after dark most nights, looking for the caribou meat that they could smell.

I put a small strip of stick-on fluorescent-red tag on the front sight, and duct-taped a flashlight alongside the fore-end. The light was adjusted so that bullets struck dead-center in the light beam at fifty yards. There was enough side-scatter from the flashlight to illuminate the red front sight brilliantly.

The system was deadly-effective. My second M-14 was left as-issued for use as the "day rifle", but I spent most nights in the dark waiting for bears with the "night rifle". I usually managed to run them off.... but not always.

All the ground was soft sand..... no trouble staying awake when you KNOW the griz are out there, and can approach in complete silence. Everyone in camp was told in no uncertain terms to make plenty of "people noises" if they approached me in the dark. Funny.... hardly anyone ever did!

i cut a small sliver of that fridge magnet and put it on my rear sight. i used a magnet because it is easy to put on and position before covering with nail polish/super glue

i am of the opinion that,if i can do something cheaply, effectively with great results
why the hell would i go to a gun smith?
i have never used one yet.
if i ever become rich and too lazy to buy the tools and learn how to do it myself i will hire one to build me a gun
but really
if i had the money i would just buy the tools.
