I have been looking to buy a FAL and don't really know much about them. I know there are owners out there, CB'ers at that.

Give me the low skinny on what to look for, different brands, etc.

Check out the FALfiles.com if you want some ideas.

Below are some quality guns, prices for the below will run you from $2500 down to $700 or so.
option one, a factory built gun, in my preference, there are others, but this is the majority of what you will find:

Belgian FN
Argentine FMAP
Brazilian IMBEL (most here were sold as a Springfield 48 or 4800)

Factory Built Kit guns:
DSA
Entreprise

Kit guns with the following receivers should be considered as well. On a FAL, if the receiver is good the rest can be fixed should it not work right.

-DSA
-IMBEL
-DCI, Coonan
-FMAP
-Century receivers marked "Made in CANADA", which in reality were made in Argentina or Brazil

Bad news would be most Century, Hesse, or the Infamous Williams combat Elite "Alumabombs"
