I happened to run into a friend of mine today and he mentioned that he had a pistol for sale. Turns out that it was a Smith and Wesson 19 - 3 with a 2.5 inch barrel. This one is pinned and recessed With about 95 percent finish. Well needless to say it followed me home. At the price I couldn't walk away. And it came with about 85 rounds of 38 special ammo.

I have one, and it is an excellent piece. I really like the Pachmayer Compac Pros. The aren't really any bigger than the factory stocks, and have the open back strap I like, but have a much grippier texture. Nice score!

"S&W model 19 one of Smith & Wessons greatest handguns.
Loved by all, abused by many." Danny Wink

Older smiths are a real addiction. I have quite a few myself.

You probably know this already, but refrain from using 110 and 125 gr jacketed Magnum loads in the Model 19. Use of these can result in a cracked forcing cone, and you will then need to find a used M19 barrel for a repair.

I know some people that would give body parts for that one...not that you'd want any of em'! [smilie=l:

Enjoy that wonderful piece in good health!

Yep. This one won't see any lightweight magnum loads. I'm only going to feed it moderate loadings of medium and heavy cast.

Its nice but if it was any nicer id feel guilty about carrying and shooting it.

TenTea,

I wouldn't trade it for a whole pile of body parts .......or money.
Been keeping an eye out for a 19 or 66 for a long time. Now I need a 4" to go with it.

You just never know when stuff will fall in your lap.

I had a girlfriend a number of years ago that was a bartender on weekends. I got more guns from guys needing money for a new roof, heating oil etc. She was always on the lookout and I would often get a call at night " hey, bobby is short on money and needs some firewood. You interested in xxxx" Got my model 19 6in like that for less than $500 NIB
