Not that I have any desire to futz with a 30 Carbine, since there are more than enough cartridges for me to try and reload, BUT I looked at the body and length of the 30 Carbine and the 32-20.

30 Carbine
.354 Body, 1.290 long case

32-20
.354 Body, 1.315 long case

So if anyone cared, it may be possible to use the 32-20 to form 30 Carbine rimmed cases by running the 32-20 through a 30 carbine die (and trimming to length). I personally dislike cases that headspace on the mouth, like the 30 Carbine.

And now back to our regularly scheduled broadcast....

NOTE: I have seen base diameters that differed a few thousandths between the 30 Carbine and the 32-20, but 3 thousandths is not catastrophic. IMHO, after the first resize / fire form, the cases are well supported.

The Carbine case, chamber and dies are built on the basis of a .308 bullet and .336 neck, but the .32-20 on the basis of a .312 bullet and .326 neck. The standard dies won't size it small enough to grip the bullet, and with special dies the neck clearance would be too great for case life and good accuracy. It might be a good way to a round for some 8mm. barrels, though.

I did it for years in a New Model Blackhawk and so have many others. The 30 Carbine size die works fine and cast bullets work extremely well. I seated the bullets and flared the case mouth with the 32-20 dies but did the sizing with the Carbine die. That was until the 327 Federal appeared.

I just drop loaded 32-20 cartridges into the 30 carbine cylinder. Then I reload them with 32-20 dies so I can use the ammo in both my 30 carbine and 32-20 revolvers. Shoots well, either way.

Been futzing [smilie=l: the 8mm French (may as well call them .33 Specials) from 32-20.
Would really love to have a rifle chambered for it too.

The 32-20 cases I have from Starline will not size correctly to hold a bullet using a 30 carbine die. I have to use either a 32-20 or a CH4d tight-neck 30 Carbine sizer die to do this. While others claim to be able to size 32-20 brass in a 30 Carbine die, I cannot. I suppose they are using something other than the brass I am using. I wonder what manufacturer's product they have.

My 32-20 size die wouldn't close the neck tight enough to grip a .308 bullet so I had to use the 30 carbine size die. What problem are you having? Oh and a 32-20 FCD works wonders

My .313 dia 115 grain boolits shoot very well from my 30 carbine pistol. Rascals are hard cast, too. No leading and accuracy is all I can ask for...

I use the 32-20 cases in my 30 carbine revolver.
you do have to trim them back to length to fit your cylinder.
I use the rcbs 32-98 rnfp sized to 312.
but it sure makes a nice small game round, you can use 32-20 data or whatever, it sure quiets the little gun down.

I have used WW brass and my 30 carbine die won't size the case down far enough to hold a .310" boolit. Had to use my 32-20 dies. Might try some nickle plated cases next and see what happens.
