I have a GG and I don't like the fat forend. I thought about putting it on the belt sander, but then I would lose my checkering. I have no interest in learning to checker.

Does anyone on this group do checkering, or have any suggestions?

You can live with it or go ahead and thin it down and pay someone to re-checker it.

Or buy a spare to experiment with and save the original in the event you ever want to well your rifle.

It looks like yours is lamanated, if so take a look at getting it stippeld.

I did think about stippling the forend and pistol grip.

Buy a replacement stock that is hardwood/walnut from Marlin - they are not fat, at least the original one for mine isn't.

Take care thinning, there is a 'bulge' in the magazine tube right in front of the receiver for loading purposes. The stock has a hollowed area where this bulge occurs and is not full thickness as the rest of the fore end. Some sort of fill or support may be needed behind this spot when thinning.

You may be interested in a boyds stock. Not sure this is the one 1895 GS. Click on custom options and $15.00 extra will get a laminate in choice of colors. $46 + $15 =$61.00 for a finished forend.

I'd call them to ask about profile. Ben is the stock finisher here.
