I just barely got out to try my 425 grain gas check boolits in my Marlin XLR. I loaded them over 36 grains of IMR 4198 and the damn thing shoots low at 100 yard with the ramp on the rear sight at the highest setting I am still 3" low at 100 yards. Anyone ran into this before? Thanks

Probably because the sights are regulated for the Levalution (SP?) ammo or the faster 300 HPs not your basic slow moving cast bullet.

Get a Lyman or Williams reciever sight and you should be just fine !

Shorter front blade. Maybe they gave you the wrong one.

The wife and I just each bought the same XLR 45-70's. We are having the barrels chopped down to 20 inch and using red dot scopes though. The front sight will be replace with a dovetail via XS sights that is plasic and you break it of to adjust elevation then call them up and they send you a metal one the right height. Just an option I thought I would throw out there.

Can you tell us what velocity your running?

Sorry Duke I dont have a chrony. I will have to look into the XS sight system. Is this the same one? http://www.swfa.com/pc-3837-46-xs-sight-systems-ghost-ring-sights.aspx

Nearly every new Marlin that I have bought over the years either shot too high or too low. I think they must, at the factory, just grab any ole front sight and insert them into the ramp. I had a 25-20 1894CL that was so far off that I had my gunsmith install a ramp just to be able to get a high enough front sight. They make a great levergun, but apparently pay little or no attention as to elevation at the time of manufacture. Not all brand-new barrels are the same when made.

The front site is the one to replace.

Their picatinny rail does not work via the screws they sent me were not long enough. I am sending the rail back to them and contacting their engineer to help the fix their problem. The Mainstay of XS sights is replacement joints in the body from what I have been told. Very nice people though.

dont feel too bad
the new 92's are all sighted in at 25 yds with a sling shot or something?
