A couple of weeks ago I loaded up some "Clays" (just plain "Clays") and shot it out of my .32 H & R "magnum" at 3.3 gr. under the RCBS 32-98.

Seated deep enough to fit into the H & R cylinder 1.345-1.350", they packed quite a nice little ker-pop! Seated out to fit out as far as I could in my Ruger Blackhawk cylinder lowered pressures down to the point where the cases were sooty and I ended up shooting them all into the dirt bank so as to make sure the boolit left the barrel. It was a very noticeable difference just changing the seating depth. I don't think that powder will be seeing much use in anything but shotgun shells looks like.

Don't give up on clays just yet. If you own a 9mm, 40SW, or 45ACP it makes a very good mid-range powder in those. I do think it does its best work in cases with minimal volumes.

That is one reason why seating depth gets critical in top end loads in the 9mm. Not much case capacity to start with!

I am thinking that at least just be very careful with this stuff. Like I said, it had a nice oomph with the shorter seating depth so will probably use that just in the .32 H & R 586 pistol. Other powders are working well with various depths so may as well use those in the longer seated Ruger loads. I am having great luck with AA#5 & AA #7 in the Ruger & for real whomper loads, AA#9 & 296 are what I have been using.

My .314" boolit supply in the 32-98 is going down! I have one more batch I made up and lubed with LLA. Looks like shooting BP loads.

I like Clays in my .44 mag ...... When I see sooting on the outside of the case .... I bump up the charge a bit and try some more. Had not noticed this with Clays but sure did with Titegroup.

Until you get a handle .... check your barrel after every shot for a stopped bullet.

Clays is Aussoe made AS50, I've used about 40-50 lbs of it over the years, all but a cupful was used in 38s, 9mms and 44s, 38s and 9s mostly.

..............I think some of the SASS guys are paying Clays a lot of attention.

One of Clays main attributes seems to be extremely clean burning.
