I was talking to a buddy and he was wishing for a 10mm carbine, any ideas?

So many have lamented the absence of a 10mm lever gun option.

You could look at an AR15 SBR. Otherwise, the Mechtech linked above is a reasonable option.

Always thought the 10mm would be best served with a 12-16 inch barrel... Give me that in a light take-down carbine and it would be one heckuva back-packing gun.

Mech tech upper for either 1911 or Glock. You can use a 45 lower and just buy the correct magazines. That's probably the most cost effective option.

Every time I think of this (10mm carbine) I wind up thinking I might as well get a 460 Rowland carbine.

My collection of guns, supplies, brass etc. is really going toward the revolver rounds anyways.

Frankly I wonder about 460 Rowland in a blowback gun. The bolt would need to be massive or the recoil spring so stiff that it would run the risk of overrunning the mag spring feeding the next round.

A lot of people have the same concerns about 10mm. I thought that's why you don't see something like that keltec Keltec Sub2k in 10mm.

Looks like the MechTech is made in either though so maybe they have heavy bolts or whatever requirements are necessary for such a beast.

If money wasnt an issue I would search for one of the HK MP5 models that were at one time chambered in 10mm

Those are know to shoot apart in full auto. Heard one HK smith say he had never seen a MP5 10mm receiver that had not cracked and been welded.

I doubt that it would be an issue.
I have shot the pistol conversion and it worked flawlessly.

If I recall a properly converted 460 Rowland involves a compensator to slow it all down. I don't know if that would be necessary or what that would mean for a carbine.

The mech-tech has a flash hider that is pressed on, not threaded IIRC. Threaded would be nice because you could just screw on a 45 comp.

I have the Clark 1911 conversion for 45 Rowland. It comes with a 24# recoil spring and a compensator. I really can't imagine the slide velocity without the comp. They actually sell a heavier rear sight for the Glock (the "Rowlanator") to give it more mass, and it's a locked breech gun.

Imagine a blowback 44 magnum: that's essentially what a Rowland would be.
