Does anyone have any experience with the cartridge? I recently picked up a cape gun in 12ga and 360 express, and I'm trying to learn more about it.

Is there a source for brass? Can it be made from something else?

Load data?

Any help is appreciated!

Did you buy it from me on another site?

My advice is based ONLY on my rifle and may not be safe for yours.

But here is my experience - Grafs has brass but it is expensive - ($99/20) But you can form brass from 30-40 Krag. Straight walled 38-55 cases work very well too. 375 Win is functional but was a little short for my gun so not as accurate as loading 38-55 brass. Use a 9.3 mm bullet. Speer Hot-Cor worked well for me. I loaded 18 grains of 2400 for cloverleaf groups but I did get a little flow in the primers so it might be a tad hot. I'd say start at say 15 grains and work your way up.

Thanks Mike!

I bought it from a local dealer here, and it could be your old rifle's twin.

I appreciate the input, and you can expect a PM this evening.

I have a 360 cape gun. I am assuming It is 360 #2 . You can make them from 450 nitro express cases. I have loaded mine with 777 .. . There are several 360's. most of the early cape's were in #2.

This is the dimensions of the 360 Express, scanned from a reprint of a 1884 Kynoch pamphlet:

My rifle appears to be the nearly straight walled cartridge, and not the #2.

I'll have to get a chamber cast to be sure, but it'll be a bit, with everything else going on around here.

Greetings
Sounds like a fine Cape gun to have. I have a 12 x 38-55 and it is one fine hunting gun. Sadly I cannot pop corn crunchers legally in ILLinois with it but it is a fine gun for coyotees up close. I run 3F in mine and it does a good job.
