I'D really like to have one of these in a compact model. Anybody have a review or what modifications have you done? Just gonna be a carry, target shooter, replacing my star p.d. which even though I really like, has an archaic trigger pull. Thanks ahead of time.

No experience with these?

I am unfamiliar with what you are talking about.

Photos or more description may help also.

It may need the barrel throated and crowned, you may be hard pressed to chamber a .452" with the barrel in the as-it-left-the-factory condition.

I held one the other day in the LGS and it had a surprisingly nice trigger on it. The action was smooth as well. From all accounts that I have read it is solid shooter.

Should be a nice carry pistol.

thats the full size steel 5" gun. The range office compact is an officers alloy frame with 4" bull barrel and fixed sights. I personally won't own a non-bushing gun. I love springers though.

Sorry, no experience with the 4" model, but the standard 5" R.O. is a really nice shooter and great value. I've had mine for a couple of years now and it's been fed 95% cast 230gr. RN in front of 4.5gr. Bullseye. I finally figured out that my old RCBS seating die is .001" too small to take a .452 boolit and any case except R-P (they are thinner) without swaging down the boolit and giving poorer accuracy as well as some leading at the throat.

Last time out I had a batch of RCBS 230gr./BAC lube in front of 8.5gr. Alcan AL-7 (yes, it's OLD) on the 25yd. range. I wasn't taking particular care in aiming, just two hand standing fire, but stunned myself with at least 10 of the 14 rounds going into under 2", which is 2" better than anything I've seen yet out of her.

I had a few jams when it was brand new, but since then it's been 100% reliable. It is also just plain fun to shoot! I keep jonesing for a wheelgun, but I just can't get comfortable with them. The 1911 just fits me like I was born with one! :)
